Taglines

Taglines

The tagline is one of the four vital components of your branding portfolio, along with your nonprofit's logo, overall graphic look and feel, and positioning statement. A great tagline differentiates you from your competitors while expressing your organization's personality and adding consistency to your marketing and communications.

Taglines are perhaps the most underrated and underused elements of personal and business presence, yet they serve a huge function.

Taglines are your brand’s elevator pitch and help people get a quick snapshot of who you are. It’s your opportunity to be descriptive, catchy, memorable and create a unique brand for your busines either in online or print. They also present a great opportunity for keyword inclusion, but not at the sacrifice of stickiness. Ideally you can combine something catchy and SEO friendly.

The social web has conditioned us to move through content-based sites quickly, and if we reach a site with an unclear thesis we’re likely to click to the next thing. You also can’t count on visitors to read your “about” page. In a world that increasingly moves at 140 characters or less, having a hook such as a clever tagline can make all the difference.
If you have a Twitter account check if not hurry and get one...you inmediatelly will start seeing great examples.

The absence of a tagline – or the use of an ineffective one – will put your business at a competitive disadvantage in funding, building your staff and volunteer base, and increasing use of your programs and products either for profit or non-profit
as your "Name Alone Isn't Enough".

The tagline is part of that instant appraisal by users. It's your golden opportunity to tell a client or web visitor, "yeah. relax. you're right where you need to be. we got you covered. this the print or online presence devoted to practical insights on banana carving [or whatever the business deals with]."

Niche-Focused Membership Sites

Niche-Focused Membership Sites

One of the most valuable true statements about finding a niche for a membership site is that you have to know your market. An idea for a site may sound good, may even be one that you are interested in; but if the market demand is poor than it will be a dead site. You have to understand what your members need in the niche you are contemplating. Will you be able to provide enough fresh content each month to address the needs they will have in that niche?

One obvious point that must be made is that the niche you decide on must be one that can be served online, if you choose a niche that can only be done strictly offline you may not find enough interest.

Samples:

Hulu unveils subscription-based service meant to bolster revenue and attract U.S. subscribers who might be unwilling to pay lofty cable fees
Netflix just passed 2 million subscribers and is worth $1.86 billion.

XM Satellite Radio reached 1 million subscribers last October, less than two years after its launch. They are projecting 2.8 million by the end of this year. Market cap: $5.2 billion.

RealNetworks reached 1 million subscribers to its content service by April 2003. Market cap: $1.1 billion.

Classmates.com had 1.6 million subscribers two years ago. (It's privately held).

American Greetings, I believe, got a million subscribers (to its $11.95 per year greeting cards subscription) in less than one year.

There are many more examples of successful subscription services. The question is, is it possible to create new ones that have the potential to generate a million subscribers, or have all the good ideas already been taken?

I'm working with two startup teams on two pretty exciting ideas, both completely unique, that might eventually generate a million customers each. (Especially if Jim Ericson gets involved!)

Subscription-based business models can be incredibly profitable once they get legs. I've been in established subscription-based businesses, and it is like printing money off a printing press

Infopreneurship: a business based on knowledge!

Infopreneurship is a business model based on the sale of information. Information is a commodity. It is what people look for on the internet. They want answers to their questions. And many are willing to pay for these answers.

Becoming a successful infopreneur is not as difficult as you may think, especially infopublishing the Hineni way*. All you have to do is publish what you know using the right process and the right tools. Let’s look at each one of these.

The first ingredient is your knowledge. You’ve gained knowledge through study, research, experiences, hobbies, jobs and other means that could be easily shared with others who are looking for the knowledge that you already possess.

Next, is the right process. Sharing your knowledge is the first step in the process. Creating good content is a matter of writing out your knowledge in a way that reflects your personality. When visitors arrive at your website, they find helpful information. This breaks down the barrier of anonymity and creates credibility. When you recommend a product or service, your visitors are more willing to check it out and give it a try.

Finally, you have to have the right tools. If you had to build a house, which of the following objects would you choose in order to drive nails?

a. shoe

b. hammer

c. nail gun

I hope you chose letter “c”. The nail gun allows you to work smarter. You get the job done much quicker and with a lot less effort.

Hineni Memberlodge.org! is like having a nail gun to build your business instead of a shoe or a hammer. There are some tools out there that are just not appropriate to building an online business. Others, like the hammer, get the job done but they sure leave you worn out.

e-Business on-a-box offers you a complete set of online business-building tools that help you to be succesful with your information based business and work more efficiently and effectively. The tools do the work they are supposed to and you add the BAM (brains and motivation) Register and start right away @ www.hinenimedia.memberlodge.org.

Built in WordPress Membership Site Maker

How to Set-Up a WordPress Membership Site Maker in less than 30 minutes

I am going to show you three ways to set-up a membership site and is very easy. ohter tools will provide much better protection, more powerful features, and much more professional tools to help you, but each can get the job done.

All you will need is one of the site building option, an email list or promotion technique, and content to get on your way.

Option 1:Built in WordPress Membership Site Maker This option is free, easy to setup initially, and built in to your current wordpress dashboard. Sounds good right? Let me tell you how to make this happen.

How you can do it? The first step is easy!
Write unique and important content in your wordpress blog. Then go into the “Edit” tab of your “Posts” menu in the WordPress Dashboard. Select the content you would like to make part of your new membership site and open the individual “Edit Post” screen. In the right sidebar, at the top there is a “Publish” widget. Go to the “Visibility” option and select “edit”. Then out of the 3 options choose “Password Protected”. Input the password and you now have protected content.

The next step is to create a “page” with the title of your premium content, membership site. Then use this page to describe the membership, offer a Paypal or other automated payment option. Give out the password to those that have bought the rights. And watch your income start to come.

Of course it is important to note that membership sites take a lot of work to publicize and get members to.

Here are some Pro’s and Con’s of this WordPress Option:

Pro’s- Free and very easy to set-up initially. Already built into your current WordPress dashboard and easily converts all of your blog content into premium content.
Con’s- Administration of the membership site and content will be tedius and difficult. Keeping track of members, changing passwords for security reasons, updating status, getting paid, and running the membership site will be challenging and long.

Insert free Membership Site WordPress Plug-in

The next option is also free, offers more options and is easier to administer the site with. MemberWing is the company and name of the membership plug-in. It also touts that the plug-in works seamlessly with Thesis Theme and offers great seo.

Just like any other plug-in, you download the membership plugin from their site and load it into your wordpress blog. Then configure it and in no time you have a membership site.

Here are a few of their options:

Insert {+++} anywhere into a post or page to create a text marker. Everything before the marker is free to see (a teaser) and everything afterwards is paid content.
Content and Download Protection to stop “guessing” and unauthorized links to your premium content.
4 Membership levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum options allow for different pricing option and content availability.
Works seamlessly with Paypal, Ejunkie, PayDotCom, Clickbank and other popular payment programs
Pro’s — Much better administration then with password protecting your blog. Allows you to have more control with specific coding and scripts to do much of the work for you. Additionally the free plug-in allows you to see how well the membership site will work with your content.

Con’s - The plug-in is free, but to receive all of the options there are multiple levels of plug-ins. So to get the best support, features and help you will need to have the premium versions of the plugin. I also think that although functional, the free version is not very appealing to the eyes. It could use some design work to make it look more professional.

Inserting the Premium Membership Site Plug-in

This is my favorite option. Of course it is the highest quality and best value. No it is not free, but the value comes in what you get out of it for what it costs. The Wishlist Membership Plug-in offers both a powerful and lite plug-in to get your site optimized and up and running as quickly as you can create content.

One thing that is particularly great is that you can create content in waves. For example if you start the membership site and want to create 10 lessons, you only need one to get members to start on. Then automation takes place where they are upgraded to new content based upon your preferences of time, content, or choice.

Also, unlike the free choices the premium membership site offers a very sleek look that lets your members and potential clients know that they are working with a professional site that will offer amazing content.

Here are a few features:

Unlimited Membership Levels
Easy Installation with New or Existing Blog
Flexible Membership: Free, Trial, Paid and any combination of them all!
Shopping Cart System
Gradual Content Delivery System
At-A-Glance Membership Administration: easy to see all members, import/export files, upgrade members, pause or delete, status checks, and more.
Secure RSS Feeds
Content/Download Protection
“Sneak Peak” Content Display
Custom Error Pages
30 Trial Period with Guaranteed Money Back Offer
Sleek Design
Easy integration with Current Theme
Free Upgrades to your plug-in for life
Great free support
Support Videos and tutorials
Auto Response and Auto Payment options

The best feature I found is the ability to make the content and then automate the process completely. I have been amazed with the system and know that if you can leverage your traffic, build extremely unique content, and use a powerful membership plugin you will make money.

After looking over the options and checking out the features, check to see if starting a membership site is right for you. Many of the wordpress users are using these options to maximize their income online and build their authority online. At the right price, you can do it too!

Self-Employed vs. Entrepreneur

Self employment is the act of working for oneself alone, having no boss to answer to. Self employment is finding jobs and being paid for them, or receiving money for products and/or services. Many professionals who are self employed choose to work at home for convenience, but it's not a requirement. You can certainly telecommute, share full time jobs (job sharing), create your own business. Visit www.workoptions for more information.

How does one become self-employed? There are all kinds of skills and talents that could be applied in the business world, and almost any skill can be parlayed into an opportunity for self-employment. In today's world, anyone with a little bit of knowledge of computers can set up a Web site to serve as a base for Internet buying and selling of products or services. A Web site is also a good tool for self-promotion, which is often necessary when self employed.

The first step to self-employment is self-assessment. Know personal work habits, where strengths and weaknesses lie and the best personal working environment. Knowing oneself is the key to self-employment, because to be self employed is to be alone.

An entrepreneur is a person who has possession of a new enterprise, venture or idea and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome

There are many differing views on what makes someone an entrepreneur and what an entrepreneurial venture is.

Daile Tucker, provides her thoughts on what it takes to be an entrepreneur in Are You an Entrepreneur? She defines an entrepreneur as "a person who has decided to take control of his future and become self-employed whether by creating his own unique business or working as a member of a team, as in multi-level marketing." She identifies work ethics and several character traits of successful entrepreneurs, ending with "Entrepreneurs compete with themselves and believe that success or failure lies within their personal control or influence.

Entrepreneurs are about loving their journey, not their destination." For me, this sums up the excitement and fun of being an entrepreneur. Many entrepreneurs are perfectly content to sell tried-and-true products, bringing a steady income without the intensity of launching a new product. They are labeled lifestyle entrepreneurs.
The entrepreneurial mind set can operate in all sizes and types of businesses.

There is a big difference between being “self-employed” and being an entrepreneur. A lot of people with entrepreneurial ambitions have dreams of breaking away from their 9 to 5 jobs and starting their own businesses. This is an admirable objective, and anyone who has done it is a hero. Regardless of the outcome, it takes guts, fortitude, and drive to have the courage to go it alone and give up a steady paycheck for a chance to do something more. Too often though, people end up self-employed rather than living the life of a true entrepreneur. So what’s the difference?

Here two stories to illustrate:
The Story of Aaron

Aaron began working at a local photo studio while in high school and continued working there while he attended college. He enjoyed the work, even though it didn’t pay very well, and his boss was an alright guy. While in college, aaron took some business classes that got him thinking about owning his own business. He had learned the photography business inside and out, so he started to think about the possibility of opening his own Photo studio. After checking into the logistics of such an endeavor and writing a simple business plan, Aaron realized that he could definitely make it work.

A year after college, with some money he had received from an inheritance and a small-business loan from his bank, Aaron opened Aaron’s Photos! He so loved the idea of having his own business that Aaron poured himself into his work. He knew he’d have to work very hard in the beginning to get new clients and deliver quality work to them, and he didn’t mind a bit. Eventually he hired one, then two press workers to help out in the shop while he went out and sold, and before long he was making a decent living.

Flash ahead 20 years: Aaron is still working his business daily and tending to his clients. He’s got four employees now, and managing them can sometimes be a hassle, but what can you do? He can’t afford to pay for top-notch help, so he’s got to deal with whatever he can get. Aaron hasn’t taken a vacation in years. The last time he went out of town with his wife and kids, it was a disaster. He spent weeks trying to console upset customers about orders that were wrong or didn’t get done, and he’s pretty sure the kids working the presses threw a party at the shop at least one night while he was gone. He works about ten hours a day, six days a week, but he makes pretty good money, and he’s his own boss, so it’s worth it. Right?

The Story of Luz

For some reason, even before she had children of her own, Luz always loved women's hats’. In fact, her friends teased her because she would stop at millinery stores in the mall even though she wasn’t attending social events or under the sun – and even going to the beach! While she was in college, Luz worked at a department store – in the women's accesories section of course – and she learned all she could about manufacturers, brands, inventory, and merchandising. She took courses surrounding business and marketing, and even after college she read any book, blog or magazine she could find to learn as much about being an entrepreneur as possible. She had no doubt what she wanted to do after graduation, and with a helpful loan from her parents, she opened her millinery store, Hats by Design, about a year after college.

Before opening the store, Luz got help from a mentor she had found through networking, to devise a business plan that included a detailed marketing plan as well as expansion and sales goals. She knew that she wanted Hats by Design to be huge someday, and she was ready for the hard work it would take to get it there. One of her first tasks was to open her online store and begin her Internet marketing, in conjunction with the marketing of her brick and mortar location.

Flash ahead 5 years: Luz now owns six Hats by Design stores throughout her province, with plans for three more in the next year. While she still works very hard, she loves every minute of it, and because she’s hired the best managers she could find, she’s able to take time off when she needs it most – to spend time with her hubby and their new baby. Last week, she was approached about selling her company to a huge women's retail chain, and she’s seriously considering it. Her biggest decision is what business she would start next if she sold now? She just can’t imagine not being an entrepreneur!

Self-Employed vs. Entrepreneur

Do you see the difference between these two business owners? Both own their own businesses, but Aaron basically just created a job for himself. He’s self-employed, which is in many ways better than working for someone else, but he hasn’t created the freedom that entrepreneurship should bring. Luz is an entrepreneur. She has created a business that probably can’t run completely without her but that doesn’t need her to devote every waking hour to keeping it going. One of the primary differences between these two fictional characters is that Luz is passionate about the focus of her business. Aaron knows his business well, but probably wasn’t in love with the product/service even in the beginning. Another key difference is in the planning. There’s no reason Aaron couldn’t have planned for expansion – both through opening other shops and by opening an online store, but it wasn’t part of his vision, so didn’t enter into his plan.

Luz is an entrepreneur and Aaron a self employed.

It should be stated that there are people who are perfectly happy owning a little store and making a decent living without the excitement and pressures that come with building something big, and there is nothing wrong with that. We all just want to be happy in the long run. The important thing is that you plan and run your business in such a way that it gives you what you want to get out of it. That way you don’t look back 25 years from now and realize being self-employed sucks!

The Subscription Website Business Model -part 1

The subscription website business is now a massive multi-million pound industry. And it is growing at a phenomenal rate.

Over the next few years the number of Subscription based Websites is likely to increase dramatically, as more and more people enter this exciting new marketplace.

In order to ensure YOU are one of those who benefits from this exciting new phenomenon, you first need to understand exactly what a Subscription Website is, and why this marketplace has evolved.

The Main Types of Subscription Website

First of all, you should realise that the industry actually comprises of two main kinds of Subscription Website:

(1)The Content based’ Subscription Website and (2)the ‘Service based’ Subscription Website. The main difference between the two is, a content based Subscription site mainly provides ‘Information’ and ‘Resources’ about a particular Topic/Subject area. Whereas a ‘Service based’ Subscription site provides access to a ‘software tool’ or other utility, which runs ‘live’ online, but can only usually be accessed via a password protected control panel.

I have personally run both types of Subscription Site. And I can tell you from experience that both can be exceptionally profitable (see examples of two of my existing sites at http://hinenimedia.memberlodge.org and www.hinenipress.blogspot.com:

The ‘hinenimedia.memberlodge.org’ site is a Content Based Subscription Website.

The ‘hinenipress’ site is a Service based Subscription Website (known as an ‘Application Service’). In my recent blog posts,I'm mainly concerned with the Content based Subscription Website and online website business. These are the business model I've been and will be covering in the most detail throughout these posts.

However, since the Service based Subscription Site is part of this marketplace too, I have also included a lot of information about this side of the business in the ‘Application Services’ blogroll. You should find it useful to know about this other business model too, since you may decide to run one or more Service based Subscription Websites alongside your ‘Content based’ Subscription Site business, just as I currently do.

How to pick a niche for your Online Business

The choice of which niche to build a business around is crucial to your success. This choice can determine your attitude and the outcome of your business. Choosing the wrong niche can leave you frustrated and unmotivated. Picking the right niche can be invigorating and empowering. Building a business requires hard work and determination to overcome the obstacles. It sure is a lot easier when you know you are in the right business. So, how to you pick the right niche. Here are three criteria.

Passion

Do what you love and the money will follow. It may be evident to all what you are passionate about. When you are passionate about something, you “light up” when you are doing it. You feel compelled to talk about it. You invest your time and money to do it. While it may be “work”, you find it renews you. You just have to do it.

Maybe you haven’t discovered your passion yet. A great way to find out is to ask yourself some questions. What do I enjoy doing? What experiences have I had that were positive? What subjects do I enjoy reading about most? What topics of conversation get me excited? What would my ideal job be?

Another effective way to discover your passion is to read about the niches others have chosen as themes for their online businesses. You can access a list of success online businesses in a variety of areas or read in-depth case studies.

For more tips on how to discover your passion, keep reading here.

Popularity

Another important factor in the choice of a niche is popularity. Are there enough people who are interested in the niche? Is it a topic that people are searching for? You can use Google’s Keyword Search Tool to get an idea of how popular a niche is.

Profitability

While passion and popularity are important, your intention is to start and grow an online business. A business can only thrive if it is profitable. Profitability takes into account both the popularity of a niche and the present level of competition. You also have to consider the number, quality and commission levels of the products and services available to offer your visitors. Finally, you need to consider the potential for creating your own products.

Visit Hineni to brainstorm profitable niches.

Which niche should you choose for your online business? Choose one that you are passionate about, is popular and has good potential for profitability.

Online Business Course

Take a 6-week online business course. To determine whether the course if right for you, think about these below self prepared questions.

1.Do you prefer the reassurance and sure progress of hands-on instruction?
2.Do you appreciate the discipline (and sense of accomplishment) of scheduled weekly progress?
3.Do you enjoy working with people in a small group (people who become friends) and progressing with them?
4.Do you want your specific questions answered directly and completely?

What exactly is a Paid Membership Site?

What exactly is a Paid Membership Site?

It would probably be useful to define what a ‘Content based’ Subscription Website actually is. This is rather difficult to do however, since different people have slightly different ideas about what a Subscription Website is.

But in essence, a Subscription Website (also known as a ‘Subscription Site’ or ‘Member Site’) is a special kind of website which has all of its information ‘hidden’ from view within a Password Protected area.

In order to access the ‘private’ member’s area, people have to pay a monthly, quarterly or annually recurring ‘subscription’ fee to become a member of the site.

If you like, it’s rather like an Online Newsletter and Private Club, which only paying members can access.

A Subscription Based ‘Membership’ Site provides specific kinds of information on a particular Topic/Subject of interest to its members, and allows them to communicate with one another, share information, and generally have a great time in the company of like minded others.

Types of Subscription Websites.

Generally there are three main kinds of Content based Subscription website:

1.Online Newsletter/Ezine/ Newsletter Websites
Some are very much like an online Newsletter/Ezine. With this type of site, the owner produces a page or more of ‘Information’ every week or month, and sends an email to their subscribers to direct them to a page on their website where they can see the latest ‘issue’. (The subscriber can also usually access all ‘back issues’ from within the private site too.)

2. Magazine Websites
Other Subscription sites are structured to look more like the traditional ‘free to view’ Content based website, where all the information is contained within lots of different ‘sections’ on the site. New ‘articles’, and other information is added at regular intervals into the different ‘sections’, and all subscribers can view any of the content, anywhere in the site, once they’ve paid their subscription fee.

3 Application Websites:
The last main type of Subscription site is more of a ‘Downloadable Resource Library’, where the site owner provides their subscribers with access to Information, Resources or Digital ‘Tools’ they can download and use.(This is the type of Subscription Site model I have used for the Membersite Manager Website Hineni operates)So, you can see that there are actually a number of different types of Subscription Websites. But, whichever type of Subscription Site a site owner uses, the end result is much the same. Their customers pay a subscription fee to access their site’s content and resources, and must continue to pay to continue using the site. All three require registration and payment for full access.
